Current Climate Conditions

In April through early June, a developing El-Nino persisted in the equatorial Pacific. Positive temperature anomalies prevailed over the globe, with the highest positive temperature anomalies spanning northern Eurasia and Alaska. Negative temperature anomalies were observed in the western North Atlantic and southern Greenland, Chukotka, central Africa, India, and southern Australia. Precipitation anomalies over the Pacific match the El-Nino pattern: positive precipitation anomalies over the central equatorial Pacific bordered by a horseshoe of the negative precipitation anomalies spanning the North Pacific, maritime continent, tropical South Pacific. Positive precipitation anomalies were also observed over southern Amazonia, India, southern Australia, equatorial and southern Africa. Negative precipitation anomalies spanned northern Eurasia and north-western North America.
