Current Climate Conditions

During the period of August through early-October, anomalously high temperatures continued in the Artic as well as in the eastern and western Russia, and much of Europe. These features were associated with dry anomalies as well.  The western half of North America and most of northwestern Africa, India, and East Asia were warmer than normal while northern Australia, central Canada, West Africa and central Siberia were cooler than normal.  The tropical central and Eastern Pacific was anomalously wet whereas parts of the Maritime Continent were anomalously dry, primarily impacting parts of Indonesia and Malaysia.  Much of tropical and subtropical Africa, Melanesia, and west coast of central and North America experienced wetter than normal conditions.  South America and Australia generally received near-normal rainfall over the period.
