Current Climate Conditions

In March through early-May, weak El-Nino conditions persisted in the equatorial Pacific. Positive temperature anomalies prevailed over the globe, with the highest positive temperature anomalies being observed over the Arctic, Eurasia and western North America. Negative temperature anomalies were observed in the western North Atlantic, Labrador Peninsula and southern Greenland, India, and southern Australia. Precipitation anomalies over the Pacific match the El-Nino pattern: positive precipitation anomalies over the central equatorial Pacific bordered by a horseshoe of the negative precipitation anomalies spanning North Pacific, Maritime Continent and Northern Australia, tropical South Pacific. Positive precipitation anomalies were also observed over southern North America and central South America, India, southern Australia, equatorial and southern Africa.
